Head of Institute, Wollotuka | IS THIS YOUR NEW?

The University of Newcastle is seeking an academic leader to envision and enable a better future for Indigenous students, academics and partners through Indigenous education and research.

The University is recognised as leading the way in the higher education sector in Indigenous education, staffing and research, and is fully committed to continuing to build on its long and proud record of achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander enablement through higher education and academic achievement. The University’s NeW Futures Strategic Plan 2016-2025 continues that commitment with a strong focus on social justice and Indigenous knowledge and community issues for staff and students across the University. The Head of Institute, Wollotuka will play a key role in achieving these goals in education and research.

This professorial position will provide academic leadership at Wollotuka and in collaboration throughout the University, shaping directions and capability in education, research and engagement. This opportunity offers a platform for education innovation and developing an academic strategy for Indigenous education and research, that will develop the Indigenous higher education experience and graduate outcomes to set a benchmark in higher education. Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Education and Research), the Head will also work closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and peers in the Academic Division, building strong relationships across the academic community across the university and externally to build opportunities to enhance the respected reputation of Indigenous education at UON.

As our ideal candidate, you bring academic standing, together with experience in — and a passion for — shaping new academic strengths through collaboration and enabling others. If this describes you – and you are excited by the opportunity to help lead the academic endeavours of a university with a proud history of achievement in Indigenous higher education – this could be your new.
