The recently formed School of Creative Industries (SOCI) at the University of Newcastle brings together the University’s suite of creative programs and staff to facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration, innovation, and deliver programs that are aligned with student demand and contemporary labour force trends. The School’s mission is to collaborate with partners across the spectrum of creative professions to drive innovation that contributes to the cultural and economic transformation of its regions.

The five new leaders in Creative Industries will combine extensive academic expertise with extensive practitioner knowledge and industry networks to create entrepreneurial, social and cultural impact.

The new appointments will lead the application of creative discipline(s) in their respective thematic domain to the development of research and education as well as impactful programs with partners in business or social enterprise.

The right people will help build SOCI and collaborate externally with external industries and social enterprise, working with the city and region as a ‘creative living laboratory’. Newcastle and the Hunter region are at a tipping point of transformation into a creative city, backed by its strong, research-intensive young university. The University is investing not only in five new professors in creative industries, it is also developing a downtown CBD creative industries precinct including the landmark NeW Space, ready for occupation from July.
